If the idea of walking into a CrossFit gym feels intimidating, you're exactly who we built this for. Our Foundations on-ramp meets you at square one and gets you confident, capable, and ready, at your own pace.

You don't need to "get in shape" first

It's the most common thing we hear: "I want to start, but I need to get in shape first." Here's the truth: getting in shape is the reason to come. The Foundations program is a beginner on-ramp designed to remove the guesswork and the fear. You'll learn the fundamental movements with a coach beside you, at a pace that fits you, before you ever set foot in a fast-moving class.

How Foundations works

We keep it simple and supportive. You'll get comfortable with the core movements: squatting, pressing, hinging, and the basics of the bar, while a coach teaches you how to move well and stay safe. As your confidence grows, you transition smoothly into our regular group classes, where every workout is still scaled to your level.

  • Learn proper mechanics before intensity, the safe way to progress
  • Every movement scaled to what your body can do today
  • Coaches who are patient, encouraging, and genuinely in your corner
  • A community that welcomes you from day one, no cliques, no judgment

Why beginners thrive at East Coast

Most of our members started exactly where you are: nervous, out of practice, and unsure. What kept them coming back wasn't the workouts; it was the people and the coaching. As one member put it after starting with zero experience: everyone made her feel right at home from day one. That's the standard we hold ourselves to.

Want even more one-on-one attention?

If you'd prefer to build your base privately before joining classes, our personal training gives you dedicated one-on-one coaching. And when you're ready to make your results stick, nutrition coaching is there too.

Beginner FAQs

Yes. Foundations exists for exactly this. You learn the movements at your own pace with a coach before ever stepping into a busy class, so you start with confidence instead of confusion.

When it's coached properly, yes. We teach mechanics first, scale every movement to your ability, and never rush you. A coach watches your form on every rep.

Totally normal and totally fine. Every movement has scaled versions, and your coach will give you one that challenges you at the right level. You'll build up over time.
